I realized that this track (as its name implies) is truly the most minimal track I've ever conceived: I cropped, looped and volume faded a bass drum sample to create the flute instrument, and I created the drum sample by hand with a pathetically non-sinusoidal wipe of the mouse.
Besides equalizing the instruments, all I did for this incarnation was add reverb while adjusting pitch and tempo to draw out the original 53 second track into a minute and 56 second track. There's a reason this track was originally called Ingrate - Mediocrity, because both it and Ingrate - Wholesomeness were conceived as mere hack attempts at "techno" without regard for chord progression and even shift in key by more than a half-step.
Other meaningless statistics:
ingrate1.mdl 6K -> 835K mediocrity.mp3 (128Kbps) 7.Sep.1998
mediocrity.rns 53K -> 2270K mediocrity.mp3 (160Kbps) 1.July.2005
As for the origin of the wood block instrument, a hint: it's pathetic!
