Cantaloupe Solace (of my favorite music journal, the "Uptown Sound Review") sums it up quite nicely:
"The latest Mezzanine Stairs track, Calculated Indifference, is an utter travesty. Clocking in at nearly seven minutes, it's as excessive as it is pretentious, lacking any clear direction or goal other than stomping endlessly into oblivion.... Maybe 'Calculated Indifference' is supposed to be some kind of half-assed sarcastic joke? Come on guys, the age of irony is over....
"More humorous are the track's attempts at "accessibility", including an atypically constant, headache-inducing 4/4 kick drum beat... [and a] droning, creaking sound that passes for a melody...[this] will send purists running in droves to the toilet, where they'll join the mainstream, already vomiting from the sensation of hearing these drug-addled hacks' dismal attempt at "updating" their sound (i.e. commercializing)....
"In short, a failure on every level. Mezzanine Stairs is an absolute waste of energy."
